About

Kay Heizman at her drafting table

Since founding Kay Heizman Design in 1984, Kay has worked with a wide array of clients on both residential and commercial projects throughout California including remodeling and new construction of homes, offices, banks, restaurants, and hotels. Her services range from space planning and design to specification and selection of finishes, furnishings, accessories and artwork. A professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers, her award-winning designs have been featured in numerous widely-read publications, including Santa Cruz MagazineCalifornia Home and DesignColors for Living, and Woman’s Day Magazine.

While Kay personally directs and oversees all projects from initial consultation, meetings, and programming phases through design development and installation, her expertise extends way beyond design to the personal and professional qualities that make for a pleasurable and productive project. She realizes the importance of listening carefully to her clients to help them define their design focus and knows how to facilitate decision making by acting as an intermediary between clients, subcontractors, and the design team.

Kay’s portfolio is characterized by its diversity of style. Whether California Contemporary, Mediterranean, Southwestern, Asian Modern, or Country cottage, one thing remains constant—each project is a reflection of her clients and their tastes.

Kay holds a B.A. in Art History from UC Berkeley and is Professional Member #10126 of the American Society of Interior Designers, A.S.I.D. She is a winner of ASID awards, a Charles H. Falls Memorial Award, and the California Home & Design Achievement Awards.
