June gloom is a real thing on the California Coast. The gray wet fog and overcast days can put a damper on summer fun. To combat that, I created a palette for my client’s Seascape Condo in Aptos, with a different twist on the summertime blues.
Our inspiration, “Jacaranda” from Quadrille Fabrics, a multi-colored linen print of flowers and seashells set on a periwinkle blue background, would brighten anyone’s day.
The Master Suite repeated the beautiful periwinkle blue in “The Wave” fabric by Thibaut, for the upholstered headboard, bolster pillow, and dust ruffle in combination with a glorious Anna French floral print of blues and taupes, all set against crispy white linens.
Custom built-ins designed by yours truly, provided much needed storage, mirroring, and a great place to feature coastal art and accessories. Cailini Coastal, was a trusted online resource for everything blue and white, from porcelain cache pots for orchids, to framed seashell prints.
We chose a soft blue wall color for both bedrooms which was a perfect backdrop for the cream colored wood tones and white washed rattan headboards.
A traditional navy blue and white stripe fabric caught my client’s eye, and she was determined to use it. It became our color way for the guest room, featured on the dust ruffle and bolster pillow. The euro shams, a kilim print, in many shades of blue, added a little pop to the bed, while tying all the blues and whites together. Navy “coral” motif nightstand lamps and the woven rope wall mirror and dresser lamp added a nautical touch.
The nautical touch circled back to the kitchen area where we selected a Serena and Lily Carrera marble top kitchen/dining table with a rope spool pedestal base in combination with blue and white wicker bistro chairs.
Natural rattan and glass side tables, end tables, and coffee table, added warm tones and a beachy vibe, while creating functional surfaces for lamps, jigsaw puzzles, and a drink or two.
There are no spirits dampened when entering this condo even on the grayest of days. Only happy vibes abound. The interior offers comfort, beauty, and functionality for the owners and their guests. These Summertime Blues bring joy!
